- Metamorphic rock
- Mohs hardness
- 5–6

How to identify Lapis Lazuli
- Look for natural variation rather than perfectly uniform blue.
- Small brassy pyrite grains may occur but are not required.
- White calcite veins are common in lower to medium grades.
Lapis Lazuli care
Water
Use a soft dry or barely damp cloth; avoid acids, soaking, and ultrasonic cleaning.
Light & heat
Usually stable indoors; dyes in treated material can behave differently.
Storage
Store separately from harder materials and cushion sharp edges, points, or cleavage-prone faces.
Traditional meaning
Used for ornaments and pigment for millennia and often associated with truth or wisdom.
Traditional symbolism is presented as cultural history or personal practice, not as a scientific or medical claim.
